Question on Date Parameters for 9/11 Service Challenge
Another question received by email:
We are holding an event on hate crime and bullying prevention in early October. The service component is a symposium on materials and best practices in bullying and hate crime prevention. We are also bringing together top community leaders, including school district superintendents, police chiefs and interfaith leaders, to make public statements about how the best way to honor the victims of 9/11 is to take a stand against hate and bullying.
Since this will be within 3-4 weeks of 9/11, does this fit the date parameters of the Sept. 11 Service Challenge?

Unfortunately, since the activities fall after 9/11 and your numbers of volunteers could not be reported by September 14, it would not qualify.

David,
Since we provide programs at local schools, can we hold the event on September 9th or September 12th, or does it have to be on September 11th?
Thanks!

Hi David,
In response to my earlier question, I just noticed that the program description says "implemented on or near September 11, 2011" so it sounds like it can be on the 9th or 12th. Can it be over multiple days and if so, how many days before 9/11?
Thanks again!

It must be clear to participants and the public (to the extent the event is publicized) that events held on dates other than 9/11 are intended to honor and commemorate the 10th anniversary of September 11, 2001. Events must occur in time for their results to be reported by September 14, 2011 at 5:00 p.m. EDT.

Hi David:
I am a little confused about the post event reporting. Our program is an on-going process leading up to 9-11 - not exactly a one-time event. What is your suggestion about how to complete these questions on the form? Thanks!

from the Challenge:
The narrative must also clearly and concisely describe how the organization will track and document the number of volunteers who served in this project (excluding those who perform only a nominal level of service activity). Documentation must be maintained in a manner that would allow the Corporation to verify the numbers of volunteers. Qualifying submissions/organizations will be asked to submit the number of total volunteers who served with their project(s) by 5:00 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time on September 14, 2011.

You can count volunteers that you can verify as serving by deadline, anyone afterwards you would therefore not be able to count.
